After controlling for some other factors, it appears that formatting either of my Pretec 2GB 133X cards in my Panasonic digital camera rather than in my Treo 700p generates nearly double the 32-bit write performance and about 10 times the 8KB write performance. So far I've used the camera-formatted card for audio playback in Pocket Tunes. I do not have information on what the specific differences are in formatting parameters between the camera- and 700p-formatting, the stability of the former for general use in the 700p, or the degree of practical benefit for write-intensive activities such as audio or video recording.
